Daryl Gibson joined the Crusaders in a coaching capacity after a long stint playing and coaching in the United Kingdom with the Glasgow Warriors, Leicester Tigers and Bristol Shoguns. Gibson's played 19 Tests for the All Blacks, 78 appearances for the Crusaders winning titles in 1998, 1999 and 2002.

A former captain, Rob Penney played 101 games for Canterbury between 1985 and 1994. As Canterbury Head Coach since 2006 he has coached the team to success for an unprecedented four consecutive championships 2008-2011. Rob has recently been appointed coach for the New Zealand U21 team.

This is highlighted by his career resume, which includes training work with professional basketball, league, and the Canterbury and Crusaders rugby teams since 2003. His innovative and hands on approach has produced great rugby athletes and delivered regular championship success. Jones also acted as the All Blacks' strength and conditioning coach between 2004 and 2007.

The first former Crusaders player to take up an official role on the Crusaders coaching staff, The tough as nails hooker ended his career in sight of centuries, in terms of appearances, for both the Crusaders (81) and Canterbury (78), he also played 29 tests for the All Blacks. As a coach Mark has experienced great success with the Crusaders and was appointed head coach of the Hurricanes in 2011.

A member of the Crusaders squad in five of the team's first six seasons, Matt Sexton went on to play successfully in Europe with leading Irish province Ulster. Sexton debuted for Canterbury in 1991 and had run up 128 appearances by the time he headed offshore 10 years later. A highly respected coach and Qualified Physical Education teacher Matt now heads up the Canterbury and Crusaders player Academy programmes and coaches the Crusaders Development Team.
